Session 1 blog post Course Orientation

I am hoping to complete all three required projects for this course. The first project I am considering doing involves research to practice. I have not yet decided what exactly I will do, however it will most likely include researching best practices for using technology with special needs students at the high school level. For the second project, I have a few thoughts though I am strongly leaning towards the idea of the barriers to technology survey. As my school is currently under review for WASC and preparing for their visit in March this is already something I have been working on and would like to incorporate into my work for this course. Being that the third project deals with supporting the use of technology, I am considering continuing to work on the school technology plan and refinement of our school's acceptable use policy if this is acceptable. Being that I am already doing most of these things for WASC, I am hoping I can use what I have already started as a starting point for the requirements of this course.

  1. I think that using the internet and technology should become a valuable tool for all teachers but especially for teachers who work with special needs students. I use the Internet to find sources that provide the required material at different reading levels so that all my students will stay involved with a lesson or project. Another way that even something as simple as the word processor can help some students. I have found that they take more pride in their work and will even edit when they can produce assignments on the computer. Good luck with your projects.

  2. By all means, incorporate whatever you are working on into this leadership class. WASC is such a time consuming thing anyway, so the more that you can make your work in this class match and support the work you have to do in your WASC work just makes sense.

  4. Last year I taught computers at a middle school and special ed teachers would collaborate with me to find time where students can use open computers in my classroom. Most of the time they would bring a CD and play educational games, but I think following current research and developing lessons that will meet the learning needs of students will be extremely beneficial. Many students no matter what sub group they are classified in can find common ground to learn using computers and technology.

  5. Hello Angela,

I think it's great that you have a head start and should definitely incorporate and expand what you are currently doing in your job to this course.

  6. I liked that you already understand what is needed with regards to your teachers and their technological needs. Do you also help to train them?

  7. I think it is great that you want to implement technology with your special needs students (I have a nephew who is a special need student). Keep up the good work.

  9. Hi, its me again. I tried to enter this earlier but our two blogs don't seem to have a compatable arrangement going. So I'll try again. I had asked you if you set up the additional information about or blogs or if that is something entered automatically by blogspot?

  10. Goveab,
It is something I added, though I am not sure how I did it...I spent several hours playing around with different tabs and links and eventually found something that allowed me to add additional information. I will play around again and try to find out what link I followed to do that. Im still somewhat new at "blogging" but will do my best to get you an answer this weekend!
